Friday, April 2 - The Trans-Siberian Adventure Leg 3

For the third leg we're back in Cherokees, T-6s, and others of that ilk for a 190-mile trip across the Ural Mountains, from Perm to Yekaterinburg. Nothing too strenuous here, as at this point the Urals only get up to a couple of thousand feet. Our destination, Yekaterinburg, was one of Russia's first industrial cities, prompted by a decree from the Tsar in the early 18th century that required the development of metalworking industries there. The city was surrounded by fortified walls, and served as both a manufacturing center and a fortress. Located on a major east-west trade route, it became known as "the window to Asia".

It's tough to find specific information about which tracks the Trans Siberian uses between Perm and Yekaterinberg. After exhaustive research I've elected to change Friday's route to this: https://skyvector.com/?ll=57.5494395881 ... 29E%20USSS

Hi, Paul:

Come along, the more the merrier!

To see everyone, you'll need JoinFS, available here: https://joinfs.net/. It's easy to install and run. Once it's running, go to Views/Public Hubs and look for Digital Theme Park. Right click and select Join. Get there early and you'll find plenty of us eager to help with any tweaking necessary. Once you're connected, go Views/Aircraft, and you'll get a list of everyone on the server. Look forward to seeing you!

And Rob: look forward to seeing you too!

Due to the fact that the railroad tracks are difficult at best to follow, particularly when there is snow on the ground
or they run through large cities I added several (half-a-hundred) intermediate waypoints and annotations to Fridays
flight plan for my own edification and the fact that I had nothing better to do.

Here is a link to a ZIP file that contains my mods (GB MOD) to the original latest plan in PLN and PLG format.

Also, for you non-native Russian speakers, here is a handy little tool I discovered.

https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/russian.htm

I flew this yesterday in my T-6 and was able to see the tracks most of the time from 1500-2000 ft Alt.

EDIT-------

I found an FSX compatible AFCAD for USSS over at AVSIM. Here is a direct link for the file. You will need to be
logged in to you Library account. This should work OK in P3DV4.5 and earlier as well.

Personally on Misfit Squadron Flights I rarely do it any other way than just filing IFR, which in my case is "I Follow Ratty". This has never failed me...

Cheers,
