Friday, May 14 - The Trans-Siberian Adventure, Leg 9
The longest leg of our trip sees us flying from Chita to Blagoveshchensk, a distance of over 800 miles by rail. Blagoveshchensk lies across the Amur River from the Chinese city of Heihe. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution the city was subjected to Maoist propaganda blasted from loudspeakers across the river for 24 hours a day.
This one is a long trip, even in Mustangs. I've explored alternatives, but unless we create our own landing strip somewhere along the way, it seems like we'll just have to suck it up and fly the route. At altitude, we can go faster, but from up there the scenery is BORING. Lower down, it's more interesting visually, but it means over three hours in the air.
