I've never browsed the manual for the P40 just went into test pilot mode after getting comfortable with the cockpit layout and weight and balance of the beast. I fly the circuit at 150 IAS with a base to final turn at around 125 ish and 100 over the fence and that has pretty much always given me a tail low wheel landing. I start lowering the gear almost as soon as i turn downwind depending on runway length and traffic. Once you get used to how busy the cockpit is in the circuit it becomes a flow rather than a checklist.
