Pitot

Post by Artur »

I had a flight on far north part of Norway.
It is beautiful land for low and slow flying, but with typical nasty weather - cloudy, rainy and snowy.
I had 400nm flight in such conditions - mostly cruising through the clouds, with rain and temp around zero.
Cruising alt between 4000 to 9000 ft.
After 300nm of my trip i have noticed that i forgot to switch my pitot heating !
My surprise is that during whole flight my speed gauge was working normally.
I think that it should frozen and speed should be zero.
Can someone check and confirm that pitot heating is simulated correctly or not ?

Pitot heat works.

When you first start accumulating ice the airspeed indicator flashes to zero for one frame, then freezes at your current airspeed. Pitot heat prevents this from happening.

You can test for pitot heat being functional by watching the electric gauge and turning pitot heat on. The gauge will show the load on the electrical system.
