Minimum speed at which aircraft starts steering on water

Post by Daube »

Hi all,

The recent videos posted on the topic wishing for an Accusim Beaver made me realize something: the behavior of the planes in FSX on water is not very fluid...
In the videos, we can see how smoothly and easilly the pilot can stear his Beaver gliding on the water surface in any conditions (granted there's no wind).
Even with engines OFF, when reaching the docks, his water rudder still has authority.
And when he starts the engine, the plane can turn instantly, even if it's not going forward.

All these things are not possible at the moment in FSX. The plane must have a certain minimum speed, else the water rudder doesn't work at all.
Turning on water is even more difficult with planes that do not have any water rudder, like the Goose for example. Using differential engine thrust helps a bit, but your turn radius will be large anyways...

Is there anything AccuFeel could do for improving this ?

Daube,

This would be a bridge too far I think.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for answering. :)

I was hoping this could be simulated by reusing the physics used for the paddle of the Cub on floats, or something like that, to simulate a custom rudder action on water.

Too bad, it would have been quite a nice addition to the float world in FS.
