RXP Integration for the civi...

Post by budmorgan »

Unfortunately I'm stranded at the office (which isn't all too uncommon these days)! I'm dying to know how the RXP 430 is integrating into the new civi stang. Anyone got any first thoughts?

Cheers!

Not well at all I'm afraid. It proves to be a bit trickier than most other addons I've added the GPS to.

Or perhaps someone with a better knowledge of VC coordinates can tweak it. Here's what it looks like with all the GPS entries replaced with the RXP GNS430:

It'll look OK as soon as someone figures out how to move it slightly up and to the left so that the RXP screen fills the old GPS screen. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't add RXP integration to this release as it's the only way to go if you're serious about your modern cockpit GA simulation. Oh well, I'm sure it can be fixed, but it sure would be nice to be able to turn the knobs in the VC and not only via the 2D popup.

Bummer! I was hoping that we'd have the same utility that the RealAir Duke has... I'm sure that the knobs are built into the model and will likely be impossible to remove (unless 2 models are included similar to what Carenado has done in the past). Hopefully they have plans down the line to integrate the RXP units!

I remember them saying that they were at least going to provide a no knob flat space option to place the gauge, a la Milviz C310....are you absolutely sure that they didn't Torejoh? I don't know why you are trying to cram the 430 into the window display of the 400 either...

My understanding is it can be piped in via the 2d panel. Rob is the one to answer this and is sound asleep atm. I will point him to this post when he gets up.

Guys, 2d gauge for GPS is an available option. Press SHIFT+3, and you can choose 2d/3d GPS there:

The optional flat panel approach is certainly better than nothing, but I'm still hoping that they can update at some time to true 3D integration with the rxp 430...and if not for the Mustang, then definitely for the future Piper and Cessna in the works. The choice between seeing a pretty, but nonetheless "default fsx gps" versus seeing a very good, very realistic, but totally flat RXP gps that probably looks out of place among all the other 3D cockpit doesn't sound like the best thing.

Has anybody actually managed to fit the 430 in there? If so, could you please share the panel.cfg entries?

Set GPS to 2D as stated above.
Make the following changes to the panel.cfg

[Vcockpit01]
//gauge00=civ!gns_400, 0,0,511,217 (add // to the beginning of this line)
gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS530, 15,-5,496,229 (add this line)

I have tried to maximise the height and had to reduce the width to reduce the stretching of the gauge.
A proper 3D model would be the best answer.

Trev, I would remove both entries

gauge00=civ!gns_400, 0,0,511,217
gauge01=civ!gps_500, 125,27,378,225

and use only yours:

gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS530, 15,-5,496,229

Also, don't forget about the 2D pop-up panel at [window07] section if you want 3-rd party there, too.

BTW, GNS430 should fit better.

You are correct Rob. I should have put in the 430.

Try this then
Change the following line in the appropriate sections of the panel.cfg

[Window07]
//gauge00=civ!gns_400, 0,0,420,217
//gauge01=civ!gps_500, 103,27,310,225
gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS430, 0,0,420,217

[Vcockpit01]
//gauge00=civ!gns_400, 0,0,511,217
//gauge01=civ!gps_500, 125,27,378,225
gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS430, 0,0,511,217
Cheers

I seriously agree. Given the integration of the RXP units in the Realair Duke and Lancair as a 3D all bells and whistle mask, this is a bit of a show stopper for me. I would not think twice about buying if the RXP 430 could be integrated as a 3D object... I bought the RA Dukes and Lancair pretty much because of this...
