P-51 Civ ** Stick & Rudder Challenge **

Post by WB_FlashOver »

I did a great flight tonight at dusk. I departed KLWS, Lewiston, Idaho and headed South flying up the Snake River. I started out with keeping my MSL at 1,000' as a warm-up but eventually worked on keeping my AWL (Above Water Level) around 200'. As I head upriver I will be nearing 1,500' MSL at the first Dam. Hop over the dam and continue up river. There are three dams. I landed at S87, Weiser, Idaho.

So here is the challenge.
1) Keep your AWL close to 200' or less
2) Keep your speed around 240 Kts
3) Maintain coordinated turns as much as possible
4) Maintain level flight as much as possible
5) Don't forget to manage your fuel levels

It gets real tight in the canyons so watch yourself. I didn't get any pictures in these areas :? When I got to the big interchange I got some altitude to find the airfield. It's a good flight and will keep you on your toes.

 Who's Game?

I'm running all Orbx Global, all Orbx North America regions and custom mess. I did see one scenery glitch which presented itself as a water pillar in the middle of the river and I didn't see it until I was passing it
let me know how it goes.

I do like MP flights. My usual flight time is on weekends and I'm wheels up by 0630 Pacific Time. My afternoons are usually mowing the lawn or other wife requested duties. It could get very interesting inside those canyon walls at 240Kts with lots of pilots

Thanks Lewis but she is not unfamiliar with my maintenance crew. Just last weekend I nosed her over while attempting a pivot turn in grass. My goodness that throttle is touchy  After replacing the prop and main bearings and freshening up the cylinders she is running great now.

Cheers

So today I finally got OBS installed again and working properly. I took another flight, recorded it, encoded with ShotCut and here it is. Now, make no mistake, THIS IS NOT A SMOOTH RUN! I got lost at one point and I didn't keep my turns coordinated. I have a heck of a time climbing at the start of my turns and then descending at the end of my turns so I'm working on this. Keep a sharp eye at 22:46

Cheers

Holy Crap that's a lot of work!! I haven't finished watching it yet (didn't get to 22:46) but I can't really imagine many being able to do it better than that  ...maybe Bob Hoover...or Dudley...

Thanks Rob. It is a lot of work and you need total focus. I don't like to make long videos as I believe most people watching YouTube are much like me, "if you can't get to the point in less than 5 minutes I'm gone." I didn't actually realize just how long the flight was until I recorded it  Audience retention has only been just over 3 minutes and I cannot blame anyone for that but the good stuff hasn't even started by then  . I know nobody has actually finished the video or I would be getting comments on my landing

Flying the Comanche from Weiser, Idaho to Bowerman, Washington this weekend I flew over the John Day River. Now that one looks good too. Anyways, thanks for watching Sir and for the kind words.

OK, as far as the challenge goes, you win!!

I got too tired watching you go through the paces...exhausting... Nice job on missing the waterspout...and the first dam parapets  I'm also curious as to how you defined 200' AGL...it seemed more like 50 most of the time and there were a few times I thought you were going to catch a wingtip

The landing seemed fine to me...the dragging it in approach was different tho'.... :P
