DDS thumbnails

Post by bladerunner900 »

Hi guys.

Just moved over to Windows 10 and among the many peevs I have, is the lack of thumbnails for DDS files. I used to use SageThumbs for 7 but I gather this no longer works in 10. So I was hopeing some of you veteran painters could recomend an alternative, or have another option to suggest.

Thanks.

Steve.

So. I ignored the nay-sayers over on reddit and installed SageThumbs 2.0.0.23 and it seems to work. No horrer stories yet. Exept, the Control Panel app does not work. Hmm.

Update. 13-02-2020: Seems to be working ATM.

This RAW Codec seems to have solved my CR2 thumbnail problem, for now at least.

In the W7 days I used Mystic Thumbs but since W10 .dds thumbnails when selecting large icons. Click on them and they open with Windows Photo Viewer. No extra programme needed.

A thought: Are you on W10 Professional or Home. Mine is Pro.

EDIT: I do use something. Nvidea DDS thumbnail viewer https://www.nvidia.com/object/dds_thumbnail_viewer

Hi Ron. How's it going.

I'm on W10 Pro like you. Since installing SageThumbs I get thumbnails for allot of graphic file types in Explorer now. Before that, W10 did not know what to do with .dds .tga and .PSD files and all had the same generic icon. The App in Control Panel is unresponsive, but I can access its settings by right clicking on a texture or photo. It's what I prefer so that's good.

Since installing that RAW Codec my CR2 (Canon RAW) thumbnails no longer have a purple hue to them.

All the best mate.

Oh! .dds thumbnails go all the way from small to extra large now. .JPG does not even do that and stop at medium.
