A while ago I posted some of my 182s in WWII color schemes. I put them aside, but recently I began looking at my RAF 182 and decided to do a bit more work on this particular repaint.
I call this one the "Wojownik Warszawa" ("Warsaw Warrior").
The the knight on horseback is in honor of my uncle who was a Cavalryman in the Polish army during WWII and gave his life in defense of his country.
My father, who vary rarely spoke of his own time as a soldier and as a POW , did occasionally lovingly recall his brother and called him the, Warrior of Warsaw. Hence the artwork.
Not really sure if the RAF markings are scaled accurately.
I owe a shout-out to, maloney, who posted some pics of his interiors which in turn inspired me to re-do mine. I really liked the look of the Owner's Handbook in his interiors and decided to take it a bit further by adding a fold to the cover and a curl to the next page. I also added some items to the glovebox, and what the heck, I added an Ipad behind the map.
Still tweaking things here and there. (The name on the plane, not sure of the grammatical correctness)
George

Hey George, that's a really great repaint. I like it a lot. Your camouflage patter is very good and well adapted to the 182 shape. I also really like your interior colours. If I may, though, I'd like to comment on a couple of things, as one who has been modelling WW2 fighters for decades. Firstly, your underside colour of sky type S or duck egg green should really be light sea grey. Sky type S was used on the undersides during late 1940 to 41 when the upper camouflage was dark green/dark earth. In August of 1941, standard RAF colours changed to dark green, dark sea grey upper surfaces (which you have) and under surfaces of light sea grey. The fuselage band at the tail should be sky type S. The yellow wing leading edges were applied to assist in aircraft recognition during head on attacks and should be only over the last 2 thirds of the wing edge. As to the spinner and nose, the spinner could be almost any colour, but were usually red, black or sky type S. Personally, I like what your have. Here's a link to an article I submitted to a modelling forum on a recent build I did of a Spitfire MkVb.

If you're interested, this will give you a guide to standard RAF colour schemes. But just to confuse things a bit more, here's a picture of an RAF Mustang. Note the white recognition bands around the tail and nose. (not my work)
All of that said, I really like your repaint, even if you don't change the colours. Hope you will release it to all of us soon.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Re: My C182 re-imagined in WWII RAF colors
Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
Dogsbody, thanks for the info. I wasn't quite sure of the underside color for the later paint schemes. I've adjusted the spinner, ID band, and the underside colors.
Frankly, I like this look better than my original scheme.
Great work on those models.
I think I got the correct color for the underside, or at least very close to it.
There are a few thinks to clean up and then I'll make it available.
George

Re: My C182 re-imagined in WWII RAF colors
Hi George,
I think you've got the colours just right. That's a great repaint. I'm looking forward to it's release. BTW, if you wanted to do a nightfighter version, you could change the underside and rudder colour to black, spinner and squadron codes colour to red and delete the underwing roundels. Or as Lewis suggests, then it would look even more like a Lysander. Here's a picture of The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight's Hurricane painted just so.
I will be building this in a 1/24th scale model later on.
One last thing. Have you considered doing something like this with the Comanche? I think a low wing version would really set your paint scheme off well.
Cheers,
Mike

Re: My C182 re-imagined in WWII RAF colors
Lewis - Thanks.
Dogsbody - Actually, as I mentioned earlier when I posted pics in a previous post someone asked me if I was going do a Comanche, but at the time I didn't own the plane, I have since added it to my hanger. I was thinking of doing the Comanche after I re-finish my C172. Thanks for the help.
It will be a day or two before I make RAF version available. Just got the correct grammar for the name and have a couple of other small details to attend to.
George
Hmmm, a nightfighter version.

Lovely variation on a theme and if you can forge this on a Cessna, looking forward to the even more camo-receptive Comanche!
