Someone asked the other day........

This is the place where we can all meet and speak about whatever is on the mind.

I think it was Akorn that had that in a recent video. Hadn't thought about them in years. Yes, the '51 Studebaker Champion my mother owned had one.

I'm afraid I'm a 14 too. We used to buy these plastic chips from the milkman every month and then leave them out for him to get the amount of milk that we needed for that day. The dairy was just across the street from us and you would hear them starting to load the trucks up every morning at 4 am. Great alarm clock when I was a kid.

Oh dear. You've reminded me of silver foil milk bottle tops. We used to remove them from the bottle (In those days we had free milk at school) very carefully. They resulted in the first mini frisby. You'd put the rim between the forefingertip and second fingertip.A quick flick and they'd fly round the classroom. Oh how much fun we had. :D
Is that the sound of strings being cut?

Wow! I'd forgotten that! Do you remember the plastic submarines you got with Corn Flakes? A bit of baking soda and up and down they went! Also, the little plastic divers you'd put in your Tizer bottle (99% filled with water). The list goes on ...

I'm in my mid-sixties but remember too many of them. We weren't exactly poor, but we weren't middle class either, everything was hand me downs including a TV when we finally got one. Credit cards to my parents were letter envelopes with what they needed written on them, every two weeks when my dad got paid, they would put a dollar or two in the most important ones.

You were lucky if once a month either of the parents gave you a nickel to buy candy down at the deli. You knew things were looking up if you got a dime. My grandmother grew up during the depression and thought my parents were spoiling us.

We had a used washer but back then wet clothes were hung of the cotton rope strung around the backyard to dry.

You got nothing for presents except Christmas and birthdays, if you were a good boy and mom had a little extra, she would buy me a bag of the green plastic soldiers that cost a quarter and that was just to shut me up from begging for everything in the store. And you could play with all the little green soldiers for long times using only your imagination.

My parents had a bunch of old belts hanging in the hall closet, if you caused a ruckus in the house with any of my three siblings and heard that closet door open it was time to run.

I still have the metal cooler box that was on the back stairs where you found your milk and eggs on delivery days.

You didn't buy new things if there was a way to fix the old ones, if you couldn't fix something yourself there was always a friendly neighbor who could.

We would run around the neighborhood freely and only had to be home by dinner time.

I kind of miss those simpler times. Thanks for the memories of my early childhood Ron, enjoyed your post.
Take care, Brett

We had a dog lead for that purpose! Never used clipped to our (superbly trained and gentle) Border Collie but occasionally used on us two errant boys. Punishment was swift - but just as quickly forgotten. Compared to what we got in the rough and tumble of the school playground at school, it was a trifle. Today's snowflake generation would probably put their parents behind bars.
