Although I have moved on to something else, like the famous il2 CoD, with the Piper kiev campaigns, or even il2 BoS, or il2 BoK, I share this information in summary below, because it is a solution that works great GOOD

Well, for the moment i launch with success bob2 WoV under windows 10, all settings to full, at any resolution ; to do short, i use the method resembling that of Felipze, but according this big formula  :

english cd install 2.0 + 2.06 + [2.06.1] + 2.01 + Terrain texture mod plus 2 (Boreas) + corrective cloud Nimbus (Rogeroger) + mod Grass Dither (Stickman/Boreas) - slats1.wav et slats2.wav files * (fix) = no CTD's
thanks to the cited contributors :)

In […]: not so useful.
*: to fix the absence of guns sounds, delete the two cited files of the " Sample " folder from your directory game.

cheers, Jarods18 (pulsars once upon a time... )
Two questions.

Where do I find all of those files?

Second, I do have the original CD but my current gaming PC, a Corsair, does not have a CD rom. Would this work if I bought an external cd player that I attached via a usb?

Hi Scotters
I think that I’ll be good to install the 2.0 cdrom with an external usb lector, I don’t see inconvenience , but I can’t guarantee this operation …, this new cdrom lector will be useful for others operations ….
Btw, once the 2.0 installation realized, you will not have to introduce any others cd rom in your lector.
Send me a PM message on this site for the other point, because I am away from my pc for several days.

Hi All (especially) Jarods18!

I've installed Jarods18's fix for W10 and done a little testing here are my results.

Firstly, my PC Specs are:
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor, 16Gb RAM, 250GB SSD plus 2TB Hard Drive,
Video Card GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB, Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
Display Asus running at 1920x1080 at 60hz
TrackIR
Saitek x45 Stick and Throttle.

I did 2 sets of tests - the only difference in game settings was higher 3D graphics resolution in the second set of tests which I will describe in that section of my post.

My in game settings were:
Use Desktop Resolution = off.
3D Resolution - 1440x1080x32@60
Campaign Resolution – 1024x768x32@60
Ganna Level = High
Ground Shading = On
Item Shading = Reflections
Reflections = On
Weather Detail High
Filtering = All
Smoke Effects = On
Texture Quality = High
Town and Forest Raises = On
Routes = On
A/C Shadows = on
Item Shadows = =On
Horizon Distance = High
Object Quality = High
G Effects = On
Injury Effects = On
White Outs = On
Ground Object Density = High
Particle Density = High

Test Set 1

1- do the experience with a historic london mission with all maxi parameters ; launch the game and see the battle (with the automatic pilot engaged ) several minutes ; click on the map ; return in 3 D; what happen ? CTD ?

Historical Mission – London 15 September 1940

Ran the test twice with no CTD.

2- Run any campaign ; when the map and directives in a board : let the computer doing the missions in automatic ; when the box to fly appears : go in the 3D ; after 1 minute quit the game (J or altX)…. CTD ? If not… try to continue waiting for an another box mission and do that many times in a row ….is there CTD ?

Campaign = Convoys

I did 4 flights with no CTD. There was a CTD on the fifth mission when I clicked ‘yes’ to fly.

I then changed my 3D resolution to !1920x1080x32@60 and ran the tests again as follows:

Test 1 - Historical Mission – London 15 September 1940

Ran the test twice with no CTD.

Test 2 - Campaign = Convoys

I did 3 flights with no CTD. There was a CTD on the fourth mission when I clicked ‘yes’ to fly.

I had some issues mapping the propeller pitch control to a rotary switch of my Saitek x45 throttle. It showed as having been mapped in the controls/settings but did not work in game. However, the I mapped ‘pitch’ to another rotary switch on the throttle and this did work in game. I had installed your joystick file so I might do a fresh install without this and see if this helps.

I hope this is useful for you Patrick and I will do some more testing and post the results when I can. If you need anymore feedback or information about the above tests please let me know.

hi Keith
thanks for your tests my friend....
A pity for the campaign test ; I have had that but rarely and I always save according a progressing campaign with datation steps…
Btw don’t forget you also have a " current default autosave " to do again the campaign that didn’t work and to determine if the point of the crash is the same spot

Moreover the version of the campaign is limited to the 2.01 and it is possible that a bug do this CTD ; i don't think it is a bug as collected by Buddye.

so :

-for the test SET 1-1 , for the CTD when map, then D ; do a left mouse button click on "exit" in the dialog box of the map to return in 3 D, instead using "0"
-test SET 1-2 , and the bob.exe caused a EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT error message ; the crash_log is very different from Buddye and others encountered and do not mention this EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT message
i will preconinaze to run the command SFC and DISM to repair the problem. Maybe there are corruption windows files to repair... i do these commands sometimes

-for the test SET2-1, ok, but also try to run many others complex missions than London exclusively
-for the test SET2-2, same remark above

I remember your installation you did step by step :
1- BoB2 ver 2.01
2- Patch directly to 2.06 english version
3- Patch to 2.06.1 english version
4- Patch to 2.01 english version

My installation is like you but MY step 1 is BoB2 ver 2.0 . MAYBE there is surely a difference ?

cheers ,patrick

Good work testing 2.01, no surprises. Keep testing 2.01 by trying additional IA and Campaign missions. I know you will hit some old bugs and CTD that have hopefully been fixed in later versions.

hello chaps :D

Reinstalling bob2 with 2.13 version, this is a shot over Tangmere.
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/09zogcm4 ... su9ko&dl=0
I used the RR mod from Rogeroger with the high density trees (instead low desity).
Settings are a mix between setting in the game and NVIDIA configuration panel. The FPS can be better than those at the top of the screen if I decrease them.
I don’t want to lye you… alt+x always exist but less than before this mix of settings either for the quick missions and campaign I tested.
Actually affining these settings , ... whithout running after the graal  :x ,... I continue to search…
Lowering the settings delays the occurrence of the fatal 3D error when alt +x exit
But… What a pleasure to pilot and land a spitfire !

Hi all,

I'm new here,
I just spent the last 6 or 7 hours reading this whole thread to catch up!

I've got Windows 11 and have been trying to get BoB2 working without CTD for a few days. I had Rowan's BOB back in the day when I was a kid and to be honest, it crashed then too to the point I never really got to play it properly. But no other sim does the job of brilliantly merging strategic control of the campaign with flight sim so that each sortie feels as if it actually matters. I'd play and pay a lot for a fixed "BOB3" as its such a great game.

I've tried a few things mentioned across the forum but nothing has worked so far, I still get CTD repeatedly in campaigns, but rarely get one on IA weirdly, even with max settings.

Now that I've caught up with the thread I'll give it a fresh "go" tomorrow. I'm not sure what version my CD installs at, so I'm not sure if I'm off to a bad start at following the steps above. I'd love to be able to use v2.13 as it fixes the LW fighter rendezvous issue that otherwise makes the LW campaign playable.

Failing that I might have a go at installing Windows 7 on an external HDD and trying to make that work instead of W11.

Hello and welcome AVM_James and well done for wading through the thread!

I can add to what you have read so far is that Jarods18 has done a lot of work with both BoB1 and now BoB2 and I've been helping out with a bit of testing. I just logged on here to give Jarods18 (Patrick) some feedback on my first flight in BoB2 using his modifications (I'll make a separate post regarding this. As you'll appreciate its a work in progress and if you want to get involved that would be great. I know that Patrick is hoping that posting about his mods will stimulate the forum which has been very quiet of late. The more people get involved in any capacity has to be a good thing. For example I have no expertise in computer programming but at least I can try stuff out and give feedback as I have done in the past for Buddye (who sadly has not posted for some while) and now Patrick.

I'm sure that Patrick would welcome anything that you could contribute - I dare say that he will pick up these latest posts and respond, but if you want, do feel free to give him a PM.
Once again, welcome to the forum & I hope that we can keep in touch.

Cheers

"Lofty calling Jarods18, over!"

I have loaded BoB2 and the additions and just had one quick flight to test that my controller is set up ok.

It was great to be back in BoB2 (oh the joy of full screen rather than windowed!! ).

I have tried to replicate your in game settings. However, in relation to the 3D and campaign resolutions, I did not have the option of 1600x1200x32@60 for the 3D, nor 1600x1200x16@60 for the campaign resolution.

Therefore I selected the following for my test:
3D - 1600x1024x32@60
And
1600x1024x16@60 for the campaign resolution.

I selected the landing mission at Tangmere using the same selections as the screenshot that you sent me. After landing I taxied in and then taxied back to the runway, took off take-off and used the map acceleration to go to London. After flying over the London Docks I turned around intending to land a t Hornchurch. However after a couple of minutes I had a CTD. I can post the crashlog or an extract from it if this would help.

I hope to do some more flights in the next few days and will report back - please let me know if there is anything specific that you would like me to try.

Hello and welcome to this bob2 forum

Not sure bob2 will work with win11 as Buddye said it in the beginning of his thread ; the discussion has been around win10
I have tried to rebirth bob1 with win 10 , but with a scale of 135-150% in windows ; I worked with Lofty for testing and all the mods are from Rogeroger, not me…
The results are good enough but the flight model is not stable for landings…
I've tried a few things mentioned across the forum but nothing has worked so far, I still get CTD repeatedly in campaigns, but rarely get one on IA weirdly, even with max settings.
We are always searching a solution
Now that I've caught up with the thread I'll give it a fresh "go" tomorrow. I'm not sure what version my CD installs at, so I'm not sure if I'm off to a bad start at following the steps above. The cdrom must be a 2.0 version
It can be found as bargain on internet websites
Failing that I might have a go at installing Windows 7 on an external HDD and trying to make that work instead of W11.
Really it’ll be a good idea ; I never do that because no seven windows cd ; in this thread a guy has explained how to do…

Well hope we will find solution for bob2 running with win 10 …, if guys brain about the problem… so you’re welcome to join this discussion
Btw as Lofty I have no expertise in computer programming soft , like to enter in a bob.exe , and find the errors… because the problem is in the bob.exe since the 2.02 version of bob2

The settings i propose you for the controller has been usefull for you, or are there yours ? i think the settings for trims are importants, also the manual graduated cranks for picth propeller too
It was great to be back in BoB2 (oh the joy of full screen rather than windowed!! ).
yes really because the beautifull landscap and the exellent flight model to land without jumpings or bugs.... what about landscape i suppose you have the RR MOD i precognize ?

Therefore I selected the following for my test:
3D - 1600x1024x32@60
And
1600x1024x16@60 for the campaign resolution.
no problem for that
I selected the landing mission at Tangmere using the same selections as the screenshot that you sent me. Decreasing the settings will be the solution... do you use the NVIDIA Panel for more settings ? if yes, compose something as mine in pdf
Another solution i am testing is that , it reduces the CTD , bug , all is on the picture :
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/e3q0r2t8 ... 1ivoo&dl=0
Remember...You have done this setting of desktop resolution "ON" in this thread ; for me it is better that "OFF"
I hope to do some more flights in the next few days and will report back - please let me know if there is anything specific that you would like me to try.
Yes sir and many thanks for that.... and it 'll be VERY interesting to read this link by Two27 :
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=62188&p=474928&hil ... ip#p474928
As you see there are 3 new bob2.exe in a beta version : c04, c04a and c04b and a boblang.dll to come with
I did some test with these bob.exe 's ; the c04 version would be better, but to see again...
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/xy5ceidy ... 0a4q7&dl=0
If you compare the size and the dates for each file, i think and suppose, but not sure : the c04 is better than origine bob213 , because of all the release notes in the beginning of the thread...because of the size 4372 ko of c04 (versus 4356 ko origine bob.exe), i suppose the AI is improved with the items "Summary" and "Tally" as explained.
What do you understand in this thread ?
The test is easy : substitute a bob by another bob in the picture (and think about the boblang.dll)

Thanks for the welcome!

I managed to get BOB2 working fine on W11 by following the tips in this thread, namely sticking to v2.01. My Cdrom installs at v2.03 but patching over with the 2.01 patch seems to work.

I've just got a cheap 250gb SSD (£13 / $16) to install Windows 7 on, with the aim of installing BOB2 and the v2.13 patch as I've seen a few comments here that it works perfectly fine on W7.

I've been going through the linked thread for links to mods (https://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/vi ... hp?t=12021) but struggling to work out which ones are "must haves". Obviously I want to make sure the game works properly first, but keen to make it look and sound as best as I can.

Started a campaign mission the other day as RAF. Scrambled and fragged into a flight that intercepted about 30 Stukas. I radioed in to TopHat control that we found the Stukas on approach to a convoy, was readying up to strike, relishing the turkey shoot, and then CTD (2.13 on W11). Can't wait to try again in the new build, results will be during the coming week.
