What files needsd to bring over the hobb hours?

Post by Kilstorm »

I was able to move over my input controls but curious as to how do I bring over my planes hobb hours from 2020 to 2024? Many thanks for any help.

Hi Kilstorm,

Please check out the info in the pinned topic here, specifically this bit. Bear in mind the persistence behaviour will depend on whether-or-not you have "persistence by livery" selected in the tablet settings.

Thanks,
Nick

If you'd like to transfer your saved aircraft state from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024, you can do so by copying various log.dat files. The location where these files are saved in MSFS 2020 and 2024 will again depend on whether you installed direct from Microsoft or using Steam.

MS Store:

MSFS 2020 saved state location

Code: Select all

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\packages\a2a-aircraft-pa24\work
MSFS 2024 saved state location

Code: Select all

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\WASM\MSFS2020\a2a-aircraft-pa24\work
Steam:

MSFS 2020 saved state location

Code: Select all

%APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\packages\a2a-aircraft-pa24\work
MSFS 2024 saved state location

Code: Select all

%appdata%\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\WASM\MSFS2020\a2a-aircraft-pa24\work
The folders linked above will also contain any hardware assignments set via the Comanche Input Configurator in the "axisConfig.cfg", so if you used this tool in MSFS 2024, transferring this file as well as the .dat files should allow you to use the same functions in the new sim.

Nick, I do have it set for persistence by livery and am able to have all of my axis assignments. What I am looking for it to have my hobbs meter match that of where I left off in MSFS. How can I make that happen, if possible? Currently my hobbs has started at zero hours in MSFS2024. Many thanks.

Have you moved across all the *.dat files from the MSFS 2020 'work' folder to its '2024' equivalent as mentioned above Kilstorm? These are the files that store the aircraft's persistent state, including the Hobbs hours.

Thanks,

I am having the same issue. I did move the files over but the hobbs are still at 0 hours.

As tested guys, copying the .dat files from FS 2020 to FS2024 is causing Hobbs and tachometer hours to carry across as expected. Please can you check that 'persistence by livery' is selected in the MSFS 2024 instance of the Comanche tablet, if it was in the FS 2020.

Mine has both persistent cockpit and livery on. If it helps, I am on steam. The issue occurs on both the unofficial and official liveries. Could this be due to it streaming (I bought through the marketplace) vs having the full folder structure in the community folder?

I just doubled checked and yes, I have persistence by livery in the new one and always flew with 2020 that way. All my controllers are fine and I just did an annual so the plane is in great shape, I just would really like to have my same hobb hours bc each one of those hours was a meaningful flight.

Could you guys check what are the names of the most recent dat files created in the "work" folder? These should match the livery "Title=" field from aircraft config file, and obviously should match the file names created in 2020, but maybe the new simulator is naming them different than old for some reason?

Like Nick, I don't see an issue on my end, but we both have the "community" installed version.

It looks like it creates a nameless dat file.

Thats what I'm seeing as well. All the same .dat files from 2020 then two additional files get created.

Could it be related to how MSFS 2024 handles tail numbers? Whenever I select the Comanche, MSFS 2024 assigns a random tail number based on the region where I am flying. For example, when I select an airport in Canada, my tail number is a Canadian registration. This happens regardless of me entering a custom tail number in the Aircraft Identification screen in MSFS 2024.

In MSFS 2020, I would always fly N9177P. I can see my .dat file with that registration number in the MSFS community folder, which would have stored all of my Hobbs hours. I copied it into the MSFS 2024 community folder, but MSFS 2024 is not using it because my Comanche in that simulator is assigned a random tail number as stated above.

The random tail number is basically a random livery, which undermines the persistence by livery setting and prevents the correct .dat file from being used.

No, the system is using the parameter from config file for the livery, it doesn't read your current registration number in the sim.

Kilstorm, from the screenshot you posted it looks like the sim variable that should contain the aircraft title is empty on your PC. Does the same happen if you use custom livery from Community folder?

Brendanv1 did the screenshot but my folder and files look the same. That said, I have never added any custom liveries for the Comanche and have only flown the default liveries. Is that what you are asking, or is it something else?
